Funding of a primary healthcare access and disease prevention campaign, dedicated to 832 families in Venezuela.

This project is located in Venezuela, specifically in Paria Peninsula. This region is a cocoa-growing area, particularly the municipalities of Libertador, Arismendi and Benitez.

In this region, access to healthcare for cocoa-producing communities is difficult. A study carried out in 2021 about the living conditions of 120 cocoa farmers, revealed that 53% of them have to walk around 30 minutes to reach the nearest health center. Moreover, the ones who live in isolated communities walk almost 2 hours to receive medical care.

With this in mind, we have decided to support a project aimed at improving the health of cocoa-growing communities by providing medical consultations and training in disease prevention.

Over a 12-month period, 832 families benefited from this access to healthcare, representing around 3,200 direct beneficiaries. Altogether, more than 3,000 medical consultations were carried out in various disciplines: general medicine, gynecology, dermatology, pediatrics, etc. Alongside these medical consultations and the direct care provided, health risk prevention training courses were set up: 17 courses were given to 343 adults and children on the following topics: personal hygiene and mouth health, violence prevention, health promotion and disease prevention.

Personal hygiene and mouth health training, municipality of Arismendi.

Gender violence prevention training, Benitez municipality.
