As part of our access to education program in Ghana, we are building a primary school in Bosomtwe with our local partner FEDCO. This school will be able to accommodate 270 students as soon as the infrastructure is completed in June 2021.

Very soon, young people in the Bosomtwe community will be able to benefit from courses at a brand new school. The 270 students and teachers will benefit from six classrooms, a staffroom, a management office, a computer suite, and a toilet block. To provide these students with good learning conditions, €159,000 was raised thanks to Valrhona’s 2019 “Ethical Christmas” initiative with its customers.

The construction of the school started in June 2020. It was strongly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our partner FEDCO implemented preventive measures to protect the health of local service providers, which lengthened the schedule. The health crisis also caused significant difficulties in the supply of raw materials.

This project once again demonstrates the Valrhona Foundation’s and FEDCO’s action to facilitate access to education and combat child labor. Conducted in consultation with local representatives, our access to education program is a long-term commitment. Following the renovation of the primary school and the construction of Atwereboanda College in 2019, as well as the renovation of the floor of Wassa Nkran Primary School in 2020, we are continuing this program with the intention of building a new high school in Pieso in the coming months.
